933,069. Weighing apparatus fitted to lift trucks. STREETER-AMET CO. Jan. 9, 1962 [Oct. 2, 1961], No. 840/62. Class 143. Weighing apparatus, particularly for use with fork lift trucks, comprises two interconnected, horizontally spaced, vertical members 12, 13 which are vertically displaceable with respect to one another, the displacement being used to indicate the weight. The member 12 is adapted by means of lugs 14, 15 to be mounted on the mounting plate of a fork lift truck and the member 13 has a notched ridge 17 along its upper edge on which the upper ends of the forks are hooked, the lower ends being secured to the lower edge. The plates 12, 13 are connected by rectangular beam members 18, cut out in their centre portions to leave resilient beams 23 which flex to allow relative vertical movement between the members 12, 13. Lugs 24, 32 project from the member 12 and lugs 26, 29 project from the member 13 and these lugs have aligned holes in which guide pins fit loosely to limit relative horizontal movement of the members 12, 13. A lug 33 projects from the member 12 and carries a load cell 34 and a lug 35 projects from the member 13 and is threaded for a screw 36 which engages the load cell. The load cell 34 is at a neutral position between the plates so that slight rocking does not side load the cell. The screw 36 is adjusted to give a slight pre-load on the cell when there is no load on the forks. A screw plug 28 in the lug 26 is removable for access to the screw 36, which is locked in adjusted position by screws 37. The arrangement is duplicated for a fork lift truck, the members 13 being interconnected by cross-beams 11 which fit loosely to obviate binding if one fork is loaded more heavily. The load cells of the two units are connected in a circuit so that their outputs will be added to provide an indication of the total load.
