PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium which is substantially trouble-free in a coating film application step and which has excellent coating film smoothness, electromagnetic conversion characteristics and traveling durability. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium has an under-coating layer and at least one magnetic layer containing ferromagnetic powder and binder on a nonmagnetic support in this order. The under-coating layer is formed by subjecting a compound having a cyclic ether skeleton and having≥2 radiation curing functional groups in a molecule or a compound having a cyclic structure and ether group and having≥2 radiation curing functional groups in the molecule (precluding aromatic compounds having ester bonds) to radiation curing.
