PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication apparatus capable of reducing the software processing and/or the number of components wherein, when a facsimile transmission and an e-mail transmission are specified for the same read image data, respective transmissions are managed in a unified way and transmission encode processing is carried out in a single encoding/decoding means. SOLUTION: This communication apparatus comprises the single encoding/decoding means 12 for encoding/decoding image data, and a controlling means 1 for encoding the image data according to each destination by the single encoding/decoding means 12 when a facsimile number and an e-mail address are specified as the destination of the read image data.
