PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Stirling engine for effectively utilizing the heat of a heat source. SOLUTION: The Stirling engine comprises a displacer mechanism having a displacer cylinder, a displacer slidably disposed in a cylinder chamber of the displacer, and an expansion chamber and a compression chamber with a working fluid flowing as the displacer is operated flowing therein/therefrom, and a power piston mechanism having a power cylinder having a working chamber to be communicated with one of the expansion chamber or the compression chamber of the displacer mechanism and a power piston slidably disposed in the power cylinder. The displacer cylinder of the displacer mechanism has a heating wall surrounding a heat source and a cooling wall forming a plurality of cylinder chambers around the heating wall. The displacer of the displacer mechanism is slidably disposed in the plurality of cylinder chambers in an advancing/retracting manner to/from the heat source. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
