<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data processing method for determining whether the life of a cartridge storing a developer remains or not at high reliability. <P>SOLUTION: The same index data to be an index for determining the existence of remaining life of the cartridge are stored in a plurality of storage areas of a memory stored in a cartridge. One of the storage areas is set to a write inhibition state in a toner empty state. When the cartridge is set (ST1), the index data stored in these storage areas are compared with each other (ST2-ST6), and when those index data coincide with each other, the index data are determined as suitable data and whether the life of the cartridge remains or not is judged. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
