<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a time required for image reading considerably compared with existing devices, by making the most of various kinds of hardware/software resources. <P>SOLUTION: An image reading device 1 reads optically an image depicted on a manuscript to acquire image data according to instruction from a host apparatus 3. The device 1 comprises a first processing means 12 for conducting image processing, in which pixel data constituting the read-out image data should be complemented for the image data, using a processing function implemented by hardware configuration; a second processing means 31 for conducting the image processing using a processing function implemented by software execution; and a switching means 13 for switching between the first and the second processing means 31 for conducting the image processing, according to the content of the instruction from a host apparatus 3 and the capability of the processing function in the first processing means 12. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
