PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of reproducing a high-definition image without defect by suppressing defects (badness of an image) due to mixing-up of judged results of a region. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus has a first feature quantity calculating means (image area separating unit 103, first edge quantity calculating unit 104) for calculating the feature quantity of a color image signal inputted from a scanner unit 101. The apparatus has a first image processing means (filter processing unit 105 etc.) for image-processing the color image signal based on the feature quantity calculated by the first feature quantity calculating means, a compressing means for compressing the color image signal image-processed by the first image processing means, a decompressing means for decompressing the compressed color image signal stored in a storing means, and a second feature quantity calculating means (second edge quantity calculating unit 111) for calculating the multi-valued feature quantity of the color image signal decompressed by the decompressing means. The apparatus has a second image processing means (printerγcorrecting unit 112, halftone processing unit 113) for image-processing the color image signal decompressed by the decompressing means, based on the multi-valued feature quantity calculated by the second feature quantity calculating means.
