PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to simply and quickly attain suitable image quality by easily judging a suitable correction quantity for an image optically read from an original so as to perform correction for it. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus 1 is provided with an image inputting means 11 that optically reads an image drawn on an original to obtain image data, characteristic extraction means 19, 21, and 22 that extract the characteristic information on the image on the basis of the results of read by the means 11, and a data output means that outputs the characteristic information extracted by the means 19, 21, and 22 together with the image data obtained in the means 11. Image processing with contents corresponding to the characteristic information is performed on the side of an image processing system 2 connected with the image reading apparatus 1.
