PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the mechanical loss of power by an oil pump in a four-cycle engine, and to smoothly start the pump without air lock even after the engine is stopped for a long time. SOLUTION: An oil pump such as a feed pump 78 built in an engine is disposed at a level such that the oil pump is not immersed in oil in a crank case when the engine is stopped. A starting oil sump 152 extending to a part of a rotor 78b of the feed pump 78 is formed in the connection portion of the feed pump 78 to a suction side oil passage 150 connected thereto, for example, a suction port 122. Oil resistance on a chain sprocket 85 for driving a pump is reduced while the engine runs, the mechanical loss of power can be reduced, and the engine can be smoothly started even if the oil pump is not immersed in oil when the engine stopped for a long time is started.
