PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operating device for a construction machine capable of preventing a change-over to an operation pattern that is not intended by an operator by a third party. SOLUTION: The construction machine has an upper turning body 3 turnably provided on a lower traveling body 2, an articulated front device 6 provided on the upper turning body 3 so that it can tilt up and down, and a plurality of hydraulic actuators driving the upper turning body 3 and the front device 6. The operating device 37L and 37R for the construction machine are provided on the construction machine, and they have cross operation type operation levers 36L and 36R, and lever displacement detectors 49L and 50L or 49R and 50R outputting manipulated variable signals L1 and L2 or R1 and R2 responding to operation of the operation levers 36L or 36R. The operating device is provided with a controller 39 storing, for example, four operation patterns corresponding to an operation object of each operation direction of the operation levers 35L and 35R, and selecting and setting an operation pattern to be actually used in response to the operation direction of the operation lever 35L when there is a setting start indication by a key switch 33.
