PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically retreat a tool rest in a simple constitution requiring not so much space. SOLUTION: A piston part 15 is formed in the circumference of a nut 5 threadedly feeding a grinding wheel rest 3, a cylinder chamber 11 is formed in an installation part 10 of the grinding wheel rest 3, the grinding wheel rest 3 is movable to the front/rear relative to the nut by operating fluid fed from a pump to first and second oil chambers 16 and 17, a solenoid valve 23 changing over the pump 25 to the advancing side of the grinding wheel rest 3 in its energized state is provided in hydraulic feed passages 21 and 22 to the cylinder chamber 11, an accumulator 27 to be accumulated in the energized state of the solenoid valve 23 is disposed between the solenoid valve 23 and the pump 25 and, when the solenoid valve 23 is in a non-energized state, the hydraulic pressure from the accumulator 27 is fed to the second oil chamber 17 to retreat the grinding wheel rest 3.
