PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an instrument for measuring a strip with which a large-sized surrounding box body can be avoided. SOLUTION: Sealing members 59, 60 are arranged over the whole circumference of the peripheral edge portions of the upper and the lower opening holes 57, 58 bored in a chamber 40 surrounding a strip conveying course in the circumferential direction. Closing panels 41a, 41b always abutted on the sealing members 59, 60, are fitted to a truck 43 shiftable to the side direction. X-ray shut-off members 61, 62, 63 in a strip measuring means 42 disposed at the outer part of the chamber 40, are fitted to the closed panels 41a, 41b, and the airtightness of the chamber 40 is held while permitting the side shift of the closing panel 41.
