PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a gentle transportation in unloading cigarettes form a products flow. SOLUTION: The invention relates to a method for transporting rod shaped articles in tobacco processing industries, especially cigarettes, in which the articles are held on a transporting drum by a holding vacuum and the articles are transported to an unloading drum in transporting range in unloading case. In the method the holding vacuum of the transporting drum is quenched in unloading and the holding vacuum of the unloading drum is actuated. The invention relates to the apparatus for transporting rod shaped articles 4 in the tobacco processing industries, equipped with at least one transporting drum 2 and at least one unloading drum 3 and capable of actuating holding vacuum to both drums to hold the articles 4, the holding vacuum acting on the transporting drum 2 is quenched from the transporting drum 2 in unloading the articles 4 by the unloading drum3.
