PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a suitable flow control in a LAN interconnection system, even if a connecting apparatus having no buffer is inserted between LAN interconnecting apparatus. SOLUTION: The system is composed of a first and second connecting apparatus M1, M2 provided respectively betweena pair of LAN interconnecting apparatus S1, S2 and a transmission line N for processing packets transferred between the LAN interconnecting apparatus S1, S2 at a physical layer level according to the transmission line N. The first connecting apparatus M1 acquires control information about a flow control from one LAN interconnecting apparatus S1 connected to the apparatus M1, and sends the control information stored in exclusive control information packets Ps on the transmission line N to the second connecting apparatus M2. The second connecting apparatus M2 acquires the control information from the control information packets Ps and provides the control information for the other LAN interconnecting apparatus S2 connected to the apparatus M2, thereby realizing an automatic negotiation for the flow control setting between the LAN interconnecting apparatus S1, S2.
