PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent damage on the connecting end face of a ferrule caused by a large impact when butting the ferrule against other ferrule and to prevent reduction in durability caused by repeating attaching and removing operations. SOLUTION: An optical connector is provided with a ferrule to which an optical fiber is inserted and fixed; and a spring which presses the ferrule that is butted against the other ferrule and connected from the back to the other ferrule. The spring provides a spring compression load equal to or smaller than 6.5 N before the ferrule is butted against the other ferrule and provides a spring compression load of 9.8±2 N after the completion of butt joint in a compressed state.
