PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal-halide lamp in which secondary damage due to abnormal discharge does not occur even when a container of an arc tube is broken. SOLUTION: The metal-halide lamp is provided with the ceramic arc tube 5 consisting of a main tube part 5a, narrow tube parts 5b and 5c on both ends of the main tube part 5a, a pair of electrodes installed in the main body part, power feeding bodies 4a and 4b with the electrode connected to one end part and the other end part extending from the narrow tubes 5b and 5c, and a wire for starting 7 which is connected to the power feeding body 4a and is in a close proximity to or else in contact with the arc tube 5.
