To prevent furring at the water outflow points, of water systems which are operated intermittently, an agent is added to the water which is non-corrosive and inhibits the deposit of lime scale. The agent is added to the water over a time span and in the required volume to give the required effect. The time span is shorter than the water delivery phase, and starts with a delay from the beginning of water delivery and ends when the water flow is stopped. The irrigation computer (2) sets the watering pattern, with a water pressure switch (4) and a time switch control (5) for a delayed action of the dosing pump (6), to transfer the agent from a supply tank (7) by a dosing pump (6) into the water supply (1) to the crop sprays (3).
