<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of the unexpected deformation due to the sticking material of a belt-shaped rotary body in an image forming apparatus using the belt-shaped rotary body provided with the sticking material at a part of the belt-shaped rotary body in a width direction. <P>SOLUTION: A scale 70 as the sticking material for detecting a moving amount is provided on the back face of the end part of an intermediate transfer belt 10 as the belt-shaped rotary body. A tandem type image forming apparatus 20 is provided with sensors 12a-12c as scale reading means for reading the scale.
