PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for reducing the end part of a metallic part for easily providing even the end part of a hard metallic pipe with a tapered part with a sufficient length by using a plurality of cone-shaped reduction rolls. SOLUTION: One end side of a metallic pipe P is held by a chuck 3, and the metallic pipe P is rotated. Further, the tapered outer circumferential faces of a plurality of cone-shaped reduction rolls 11 arranged at prescribed angular intervals with each other so that each roll axis is made parallel to the pipe axis are pressed against the outer circumference of the other end part of the metallic part P, and, while compressive action is applied in a radial direction, the other end part of the metallic pipe P is reduction-deformed so as to be a tapered shape.
