PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preventing method of the tumble and the drop of a coil by which the tumble of a coil, the drop of the coil from a coil truck, telescoping or the like are surely prevented. SOLUTION: When slipping the coil 2 which is loaded on the coil truck 3 on a mandrel 1, the amount of travel of the coil is detected by taking a photograph of the coil edge on the opposite side of the mandrel 1 with a light source 4 and a camera 5 which are arranged oppositely across the coil 2. When difference between this amount of the travel of the coil and the amount of the travel of the coil truck 3 obtained from a host computer exceeds a set value, the coil truck 3 is stopped by judging it as abnormality.
