<p>Moulds for continuous casting of metal.. F7-. Vessel for holding liquids at high temperature (esp. molten metal) characterised by all walls of the vessel being porous through which a compatible fluid is passed to maintain a fluid barrier between the hot liquid and the walls of the mould. Pref. application is a continuous casting mould in which a cooling fluid is pumped under pressure from the exterior through the porous walls. Advantages are more rapid and efficient heat transfer from the melt, whilst the film of cooling fluid maintains separation between the melt and the mould walls, and reduces friction between the moving solidified metal and the mould.</p> |
