The gas distribution device (18,20) has a channel arrangement for supplying an electrochemically-active region of the electrode with a reaction gas and an arrangement for feeding the reaction gas to the channel arrangement. A control device allows timed control of the supply of the reaction gas to the electrode and/or removal of the unused reaction gas and the reaction products.
