<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent material excited in good efficiency in the range of near UV to blue colored light, a method for producing the same and a light source incorporating the same. <P>SOLUTION: This fluorescent material consists of ≥1 kind of an alkaline earth metal selected from a group consisting of strontium, barium, calcium and their combinations, and an oxide of ≥1 kind of a IIIB group metal selected from a group consisting of aluminum, gallium, indium and their combinations, and the ratio of positive ions to negative ions is deviated from the chemical stoichiometric ratio in the fluorescent material activated by a rare earth metal ion including at least europium. The fluorescent material is obtained by calcining the metal oxide mixture. By combining a blended fluorescent material containing ≥1 kind of the fluorescent material with a light-emitting diode, a light source having a high spectral luminous efficacy and high color rendering index can be obtained. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
