PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which unevenness in output can be corrected with high accuracy without enhancing the correction resolution. SOLUTION: At a correction operating section 200, an AND circuit 210 ANDs image data V (1 bit) and output unevenness correction data CR (8 bits) for each pixel (LED), and an adder 214 reads out a quantized error transferred from neighboring pixels from a quantized error transfer memory 212 and adds the quantized error to the operation results from the adder 214. Image data V is then added, as the most significant bit, to 4 significant bits of the addition results to generate a 5 bit lighting signal Y representative of the lighting time. A control signal CKI having a pulse width corresponding to the value of the lighting signal Y is then generated and fed to an SLED chip. Least significant 4 bits of the addition results from the adder 214 are written, as a quantized error being transferred to neighboring pixels, into the quantized error transfer memory 212.
