PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that power consumption of a photoelectric conversion element increases and heat generation therefrom also increases when a noise removing technology arranged for reading of a monochromatic image is applied, as it is, for reading of a color image. SOLUTION: The image reader for reading an image on a sheet document while moving the document by means of an automatic document feeder (ADF) uses a CCD sensor 36 having pixel arrays 41R, 41G and 41B for reading the document image with regard to the color components of R, G and B while scanning the document in the main scanning direction, and a pixel array 42G spaced apart from these pixel arrays by a specified interval in the subscanning direction and reading the document image with regard to the color component of G. Based on the image data read out by respective pixel arrays 41R, 41G, 41B and 42G, noise components on the image data read out by the pixel array 41R, 41G, 41B or 42G is detected and removed.
