PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that can inexpensively, easily fit an optional board for feature expansion to an arbitrary interface circuit. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 controls the image forming operation, composes the interface circuit of a main controller 2 having a plurality of interface circuits to which the optional boards 21 to 26 for expanding functions are connected with programmable circuits 15 to 17, mounts a program for enabling the programmable circuits 15 to 17 to function as the interface circuits for the optional boards 21 to 26 to the optional boards 21 to 26, thus connecting the arbitrary option boards 21 to 26 to the arbitrary interface circuit for expanding the functions of the optional boards 21 to 26 and inexpensively, easily expanding the functions without making the apparatus larger.
