PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sueded artificial leather having multicolor effects and excellent fastness by using ultrafine polyester fibers and cation-dyeable polyester fibers in a surface fiber layer and to provide a method for producing the artificial leather. SOLUTION: (1) The sueded artificial leather (which is prepared by dyeing a nonwoven fabric sheet) is provided. The sueded artificial leather is obtained by using a mixture of the ultrafine polyester fibers with the cation-dyeable polyester fibers in which the copolymerization ratio of a compound having a metal sulfonate salt group therein is 2-4 mol% as at least the surface fiber layer. In the mixture, the single fiber fineness (B) of the cation-dyeable polyester fibers satisfies formula 5≤B/A≤20 (with the proviso that B is≤3.3 dtex) when the single fiber fineness (A) of the ultrafine polyester fibers is≤0.33 dtex and the mixing weight ratio of the ultrafine polyester fibers to the cationic-dyeable polyester fibers is (70/30) to (95/5). (2) The method for producing the artificial leather comprises uniformly mixing the ultrafine polyester fibers with the cationic-dyeable polyester fibers in the form of single fibers, dispersing the fibers according to a papermaking method by water dispersion and then affording an interlaced nonwoven fabric with water streams using high-pressure columnar streams.
