A regenerative fuel pump (figure 1), such as a fuel pump used in a vehicle, comprises a pump housing (12 figure 1), an impeller (20 figures 1, 2), a pump cover 24 and a pump body (22 figures 1, 6). The impeller 20 has a number of vanes (50 figure 2) which are spaced unevenly in a non-repeating pattern to reduce harmonic pulsations. The pump cover 24 includes a flow channel 28 which has an inlet end 58 and an outlet end 60. A first stripper area 56 is defined between the inlet end 58 and the outlet end 60 of the cover 24 and a second stripper area (62 figure 6) is located in the pump body 22. A number of grooves 70, 72 are present in at least one of the first or second stripper areas 56, 62 to dampen pressure pulsations within a pumping chamber. The grooves may include radial grooves 70, which may be curved (see figure 8) or straight, and "groove tails" 72 which extend from the flow channel 28. A "pocket" 74 having a depth greater than the flow channel 28 may be formed adjacent the outlet end 60.
