The bone screw has a tubular threaded section (2) with a point (3) at one end. The threaded section has a bone thread (22) around its outer wall, which also has a number of openings (21). The bone screw has a holder (4,6), with one section (41,61) to bond with the bone screw and a rod section (43,63) which projects over the open end of the bone screw when in place. A limit stop defines the penetration depth of the holder within the bone screw. The free end of the holder has a structure (44,64) which can be gripped by a tool for screwing into position.
