Independent claims are included for: (a) Production of the lithium p-diarylphosphinobenzene sulfonates that comprises reacting a lithium acid salt with 5-30 wt.% solubility in water with a potassium p-diarylphosphinobenzene sulfonate of formula (II) in the presence of water and optionally a water-miscible organic solvent; and (b) A method for recovering the Group VIII complex catalyst component from the aldehyde production reaction mixture, comprising contacting the reaction mixture with water, extracting the catalyst into the water layer and removing the water from the water layer.
