Length adjustment mechanism for a strap

The mechanism has a pinion for meshing with a row of teeth (20) of a strap and a finger operable actuator (38) pivotal in two directions (D1, D2). A pivoting link (26) is coupled to the pinion and is pivotal about a pivot axis. A rotating unit (46) engages the link in a driving relationship, such that movement imparted to the actuator is communicated to the pinion by the unit (46) and the link to displace the row of teeth. The rotating unit (46) is coupled to the actuator and is pivotal about other pivot axis. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) an adjustable strap (b) headband with the strap (c) helmet (d) a article of footwear.
