<p>In an elevator hoist, one end of the main shaft is supported by the bottom of a case. The other end of the main shaft is supported by a brake support plate supporting a brake device. The brake support plate is provided with a support hole in which the other end of the main shaft is inserted. The brake support plate also serves as a cover for covering the entire opening in the case. The brake support plate is provided with a step portion for fitting over the peripheral edge of the opening. The step portion is formed along at least part of the circumference with the center at the support hole.</p>
