The holder comprises a shaft (11) and a replaceable U-shaped unit (15) with a piece of dental floss secured between its arms (17, 18). The base (16) of the U is insertable into a groove in the shaft. The dental floss is automatically tensioned when the replaceable unit is mounted on the shaft, as a result of the base pushing the arms apart.
