PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling automatically an antenna are provided to enhance the electric field and the intensity of reception by controlling the length of the antenna according to the intensity of radio waves received from the antenna. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus and a method for controlling automatically an antenna include a control unit(210), a motor driving unit(220), a whip antenna(230), and a helical antenna(240). The control unit(210) senses a present frequency and intensity of received electric field and outputs a control signal. The motor driving unit(220) drives a motor according to a control signal of the control unit. The whip antenna(230) includes a first and a second helical contact parts and provides the length of the antenna corresponding to a frequency band and the intensity of the electric field. The helical antenna(240) includes a contact part connected to the first and the second helical contact parts and performs a communication operation with a base station.
