PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for degreasing stainless steel sheet are provided in which contaminants are hardly discharged, surface quality defects such as local corrosion and scratch are not generated, and superior surface brightness is obtained. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for degreasing stainless steel sheet comprises a rectangular housing shaped degreasing furnace(11) an inner wall surface of which is heat insulating treated, and in which a partition is installed so that the degreasing furnace is divided into upper and lower spaces (V1,V3) respectively equipped with heating means (H) and a central space (V2) through which strip (S) passes; a cooling unit(12) connected to the outlet side of the degreasing furnace and consisted of a rectangular housing shaped first cooling unit(12A) equipped with a water cooling jacket so that cooling water is circulated into the water cooling jacket from the outside and second cooling unit(12B) that is connected to the outlet side of the first cooling unit and has the same structure as the first cooling unit; uncoiler(13) and recoiler(14) respectively installed on an outer part of the inlet side of the degreasing furnace and the outlet side of the cooling unit; a welding machine(15) installed between the degreasing furnace and uncoiler; decomposition gas collectors(16) which are installed directly above inlet and outlet of the degreasing furnace, and on which collecting port is formed; an atmospheric gas supply unit(17) comprising hydrogen and nitrogen supply units(17A,17B) for respectively supply hydrogen and nitrogen to the inlet side of the degreasing furnace and inlet sides of the first and second cooling units(12A,12B); and a control unit(18) for controlling supply volume of atmospheric gas, proceeding speed of the strip and quantity of cooling water by receiving inner and outer pressure values of the degreasing furnace, temperature of the strip at the outlet side of the cooling unit and proceeding speed of the strip.
