PURPOSE: A maintenance apparatus of an ink jet printer and a method for controlling a position of a wiper is provided to prevent parts from being damaged due to friction between carrier and a wiper by precisely controlling a stop position of the wiper. CONSTITUTION: A maintenance apparatus of an ink jet printer includes a housing(5) coupled to a main frame, a capping member(10) having two caps, a wiping member(20) having two wipers(24), and a power transmission section for transferring rotational force by means of a reversible motor(32). Capping member moving sections(14) are provided to transfer rotational force of the power transmission section to the capping member(10). A plurality of wiper member moving sections(26,28,50) are provided to transfer rotational force of the power transmission section to the wiping member(20).
