PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for monitoring air filter are provided to inform the replacement time of the air filter of user by monitoring a pollution level of the air filter. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for monitoring air filter comprises an air filter part(10) through which air in a target space passes to filter contaminants contained in the air; a standard temperature sensing part(20) for sensing standard temperature by measuring temperature of the target space; a temperature change sensing part(30) comprising a channel related to filtering of the contaminants to sense temperature change according to flux change of air flowing through the channel; and a pollution level judgement part(40) for judging a pollution level of the air filter based on the standard temperature and the temperature change, wherein the apparatus further comprises a pollution level display part(50) for transmitting a message related to the pollution level by a speaker(70) or displaying the message on a display, wherein the standard temperature sensing part and the temperature change sensing part respectively comprise first and second thermistors, wherein the apparatus further comprises an air guide for adjusting cross sectional area of the channel, wherein the temperature change sensing part is installed in rear of the air filter so that air passing through the air filter part passes through the channel of the temperature change sensing part, wherein the air filter part and the temperature change sensing part respectively comprise first and second meshes, and the second mesh is denser than the first mesh, and wherein the temperature change sensing part comprises protection mesh, and the protection mesh prevents contaminants that is large enough to influence operation of the temperature change sensing part from flowing in the channel.
