PURPOSE: A scintillation detector is provided to exclude thermal neutron from crystal material easily, to enlarge the space for NaI crystal, and to increase the detection volume of the detector by surrounding the crystal material with the gadolinium foil sleeve. CONSTITUTION: A scintillation detector(10) comprises a cylindrical crystal element installed in a cylindrical housing(70), and a radial and axial supporting assembly placed between the crystal element and the housing in radial direction. The radial and axial supporting assembly has a gadolinium foil sleeve surrounding the crystal element. A photo-multiplier tube(72) is fastened to the front end of the crystal element, and the radial and axial supporting assembly is composed of a circular gadolinium disk covering the rear surface of the crystal element.
