PURPOSE: A portable terminal and a remote elevator control system are provided to save time and achieve improved user convenience by permitting users to remotely control elevators through the use of portable terminals. CONSTITUTION: A portable terminal(10) comprises an infrared ray light emitting diode(16) arranged at the outer surface of the portable terminal(10), wherein the infrared ray light emitting diode emits infrared rays in accordance with the signal corresponding to the remote elevator control; a key input unit(14) having keys for performing a key input operation corresponding to the remote elevator control through the interface with a user; and a terminal control unit(18) for controlling operation of the elevator by emitting the signal corresponding to the remote elevator control as an infrared ray signal through the infrared ray light emitting diode in accordance with the request of remote elevator control input from a user through the key input unit.
