PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Stirling engine capable of suppressing deviation of a central position for reciprocating movement of a piston by an inexpensive configuration. SOLUTION: This Stirling engine is constituted by dividing the inside of a pressure vessel 4 into a first operation space 7a, a second operation space 7b, and a rear surface space 8 by a piston 1 reciprocating and sliding on an inner side of a cylinder 3 and a displacer 2. It has a first flow passage 1c provided in the piston 1 to connect the first operation space 7a with a piston slide face 1a and a second flow passage 3b provided in the cylinder 3 to connect the rear surface space 8 with a cylinder slide face 3a. The first and second flow passages 1c, 3b are constituted by communicating them on a rear surface space 8 side more than the initial central position for reciprocating movement of the piston 1.
