PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable various kinds of processing of information containing image reading with a small size of memory. SOLUTION: Memory size 100MB of an image processing work memory 303d in the operating system environment containing an OCR image processing library memory 303c and the hardware condition at that time are stored in an image storage unit 302 to suspend the operating system. An image is transferred from an image reading unit 102 to the memory area stored in the image processing work memory 303d, and a requested image processing is done to be stored in a file system of the image storage unit 302. When reading of all of documents is finished and storage into the image storage unit 302 is completed, the memory contents stored when the operating system is suspended and the hardware condition are returned to the original condition, and the operating system is resumed to be operated again.
