PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing polyphenylene ether, by which the polyphenylene ether having an improved drying property can efficiently be produced. SOLUTION: This method for producing the polyphenylene ether is characterized by using at least two polymerization solvents having different polyphenylene ether solubilities, respectively, wherein the boiling point of the solvent having the lowest polyphenylene ether solubility among the polymerization solvents is higher than the boiling point of the solvent having the highest polyphenylene ether solubility.
