PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber preform for light amplification and its manufacturing method which have no problem with the crystallization at the interface of a center-core and a side-core even when the aluminum concentration of the center-core is≥5 wt.%, and no decrease of the refractive index near the inner peripheral interface of the side-core. SOLUTION: The method comprises inserting the center-core composed of a synthetic quartz doped with germanium, a rare earth element and aluminum wherein the doping amount of aluminum is 5 to 10wt.% into a quartz tube for the side-core composed of a synthetic quartz doped with germanium, heating at about 2,000°C, preferably≥2,000°C, for jacketing, and quenching.
