PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device or method whereby, in coating a part, not coated with a coating material, of a flexible supporter with a solvent, the width of the solvent-coated part is easily adjusted in accordance with the width of the part not coated with the coating material, while the width of the part not coated with the coating material changes with the flexible supporter, an apparatus for applying the coating material, the coating material, coating conditions, etc. SOLUTION: The width of the solvent-coated part is made easily changeable by bringing a solvent supply part 2 comprising a porous substance containing a solvent into contact with a flexible supporter 4 to apply the solvent, forming the tip 1 contacting the flexible support 4 into a non-circular shape, and rotating the tip 1.
