PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve traveling performance when a vehicle travels on a climbing up and down slope road. SOLUTION: This continuously variable transmission has a primary pulley, a secondary pulley and a belt extended between these pulleys, and continuously variably controls the gear ratio by changing the respective pulley groove widths. When the vehicle travels on the climbing up and down slope road, a gradient resistance value is calculated based on travel resistance of the vehicle for controlling the gear ratio to the down shift side more than when traveling on a flat road, and a road surface gradient value is calculated based on a smooth gradient resistance value of smoothing the gradient resistance value. This smooth gradient resistance value is arithmetically operated by using a load value of changing according to a travel state. The gear ratio is controlled by the road surface gradient value determined in this way. As a travel state, a vehicle speed, throttle opening, an engine speed and a road surface gradient are set as a parameter. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
