PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal lens of high performance capable of changing its focal length in a wide range and to provide its driving method and device. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal lens has a hologram liquid crystal element comprising a liquid crystal giving the phase change by which a wave front is formed in a blaze hologram shape to a light beam transmitted through the liquid crystal itself and a segment liquid crystal element comprising a first electrode divided corresponding to the blaze hologram shape, a second electrode opposed to the first electrode, and a liquid crystal giving phase change to a transmitted light beam by applying voltage to the first and the second electrodes and is disposed coaxially with the hologram liquid crystal element.
