PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording apparatus which prevents a medium to be recorded from being discharged while ink is yet to be dried. SOLUTION: A drying detection means 12 for detecting a drying state of the ink on the medium, and a comparator 13 for comparing an output from the drying detection means 12 with a preliminarily set predetermined threshold and judging drying are set in the ink jet recording apparatus. The drying detection means 12 detects the drying state of the medium together with the comparator 13, and controls a transfer motor for transferring the medium on the basis of the detected result. By this configuration, drying of the ink on the medium is actually detected instead of estimating the same in the ink jet recording apparatus, so that the medium can be prevented from being discharged while the jetted ink is yet to be dried.
