PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the flexibility of the layout and efficiency of the assembly work of component members by using a stopper plate. SOLUTION: The seat reclining device has a center shaft 12 for rotatably journaling an arm 13 to a base plate 11 and a lock mechanism 14 for locking the arm at a prescribed position, and a seat back is energized in the counter-reclining direction via a lock pin 18 of the arm by a spiral spring 15. The stopper plate 16, rotated and energized in the counter-reclining direction by the spiral spring, is attached to the center shaft, and a lock piece 24 of the stopper plate can abut to the lock pin from the direction of counter-reclining rotation/energization. The seat reclining device also has a releasing means 17 for releasing the spring energizing force of the spiral spring against the seat back by restricting the rotation of the stopper plate when the seat back is bent forward from the nearly standing position in the counter-reclining direction.
