<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a register file and a method for designing the register file by which useless power consumption is reduced. <P>SOLUTION: An input port selection section 130 disposed in each register Fi comprises: logical product circuits in which the number of logical product circuits corresponds to the number of input ports; and a logical sum circuit taking the logical sum of the outputs of the logical product circuits. Each of the logical product circuits of the input port selection circuit 130 receives data on corresponding writing port WR<SB>-</SB>DATAj and a section signal Sij specifying whether or not the data is inputted to a storage section 140. In addition, each of the logical product circuits receives the reversal signal of the selection signal Sij specifying whether the data on the writing port WR<SB>-</SB>DATAj having the higher setting in the order of priority than the writing port WR<SB>-</SB>DATAj corresponding to the logical product circuits is written or not.
