PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automobile fuel tank superior in gas barrier performance and less in weight. SOLUTION: The synthetic resin automobile fuel tank comprises an upper tank 10 and a lower tank 20 integrally joined and welded at their split-opening peripheral edges. In its manufacturing method, each of the upper tank and the lower tank is formed with two synthetic resin layers consisting of a base material layer 11 of a hard synthetic resin and a barrier layer 12 of a synthetic resin low in fuel permeability on the surface of the base material layer inside the tank, the base material layer being formed by injection molding and the barrier layer being formed by injection molding or injection compression molding. Thus, the fuel tank superior in gas barrier performance and contributive to uniform thickness and lighter weight is obtained with the base material layer and the barrier layer adhered to each other.
